A must have app for all musicians, more so for Indian classical percussionists.
Tihai - One of the most commonly used terms in the beat (Taal) system of Indian classical music refers to a phrase of certain number of beats which is played three times separated by a fixed interval. The phrase length is typically referred to as 'Matra' and the fixed interval as 'Gap'.
The tihai builder app is a calculator tool that provides infinite combinations of tihai for beat cycles ranging from 4 beats to 16 beats. There are four different types of Tihai included in the app - Small, Long, Bedam and Farmayeshi. The user has to select the beat cycle and tihai type and press 'Generate Tihai' to see the output.
The app also lists down all the major rhythms (taal) in Indian classical music and their descriptions (Bols).
